Student, Labourer (Transit)

Hours of Work: 12 hours per week
Wage: $13.15 – $14.00 per hour (under review)
Location: Grand River Transit Centre, 85 Chandler Drive, Kitchener
Description of Duties:
Cleans entire bus interior by vacuuming, dusting, washing bus floors, walls, ceiling, windows, stanchions, seats, dash area. Also cleans and maintains shop area. Visual concentration and attention to detail are constantly required. Sitting, standing, stretching, bending, twisting are required when cleaning. Work is performed in a shop area 100% of the time, exposing the incumbent to odours from stored chemicals, diesel fuel emissions, noise, moving objects, and hazardous materials.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
• Knowledge of reading, writing, and arithmetic skills, plus one year of general labour experience.
• Communication and human relations skills to exchange information with others and to participate as an effective team member.
• Functional knowledge of the proper and safe operation and use of equipment related to job duties.
• Ability to communicate verbally with supervisor, co-workers.
• Ability to support and project values compatible with the organization.

To be considered for employment as a student, a person must be: registered as a full-time secondary or post secondary student in an accredited institution, or currently recognized as having full-time status by the academic institution but applying for a school vacation, practicum or work term, or returning to full-time studies in the next academic term. Students who are in their final year of academic study and who are not intending to return to full-time studies are eligible for student employment up until the time they convocate. Students participating in education and retraining programs at the post- secondary level, though not full-time students, are eligible for related student employment opportunities, where an appropriate match exists i.e. full-time employee in Community Services taking part-time courses to become a caseworker is eligible for a summer student caseworker position.
